Editorial

I've been considering the fact that, to the uninitiated, embroidery appears to be a soothing occupation. The general view of the rypical stitcher- sitting by the fire lazydaisying- contrasts vividly with the lifesryle of so many of my friends and colleagues who dash about the country lecturing, running workshops, writing books and burning the midnight oil to finish that last piece for the exhibition. No wonder we go down with stress-related illnesses- all this and the family too. I came to the conclusion that I need a hobbynothing to do with textiles. Pam Watts has taken up helicopter piloting but I've no head for heights. Val Carnpbeli-Harding has bought a keyboard but I can only play with one hand. Many embroiderers cite their cats as their hobby. It's rhe other way round for me - I'm my eat's hobby. My long-suffering husband suggests that I take up housework again. This does not appeal. (I discovered conceptual housework soon after we all found out about conceptual stitch.) I'll keep you posted.

A very happy and peaceful New Year to all our readers.
