PLANET IN PERIL? Man and the Biosphere Today

The biosphere is that thin layer of soil, air and water covering the Earth and in which all life exists. Man's impact on this zone has increased to such a point that his short-sighted policies are threatening the very existence of mankind in decades to come. Planet in Peril ? focuses on this interaction and the resulting problems of pollution, land misuse, urbanization and the dangers of many agricultural practices.

Since 1968 the Unesco 'Man and the Biosphere' programme has been studying these problems. The author describes the main work of the programme, in preparation for the 1972 Stockholm 'Conference on the Human Environment'. Raymond F.
