KAMAL BOULLATA
Kamal Boullata was born in Jerusalem in 1942. He studied at the Fine Arts Academy of Rome and at Washington’s Corcoran Art Museum School. He lived in Washington, DC, from 1968 to 1992. In 1993 and 1994, he was the recipient of a Fulbright Senior Scholar Fellowship in Morocco. At present he lives and works in Menton in Southern France.
Boullata’s writings on art have appeared in numerous periodicals and publications including Muslim World, Third Text, Mundus Artium, Peuples Medi-terraneens, Cuadernos de la Alhambra, Michigan Quarterly Review, Mawaqif, al-Karmel, and in al-Mawsu’a al-Filastiniyya. He is also the author of Faithful Witnesses: Palestinian Children Recreate their World (1990) and Istihdar al-Makan: dirasat fi-l-fan al-tashkili al-filastini al-Mu’asir (Recovery of Distance: a study of Contemporary Palestinian Art, 1999).
Boullata’s work is found in numerous public collections including those of the Museum of Modern Art at the Institute of the Arab World, Paris; the World Bank, Washington; Patronato de la Alhambra Museum, Granada; UNESCO, Paris; New York Public Library, New York; the British Museum, London.
