STUDY ARCHAEOLOGY AT QUEEN’S UNIVERSITY BELFAST

The School of Geography, Archaeology and Palaeoecology has a world-class research reputation and offers postgraduate students the opportunity to advance their knowledge and to enhance their career prospects through a diverse range of courses, research projects and hands on experience. Archaeology at Queen’s offers a unique blend of scientific and humanistic approaches to the past, covering global archaeology.

Postgraduate Taught Programmes: Students can advance their archaeological skills and knowledge through studying on a postgraduate taught course: Professional Archaeology Environmental Change* Heritage Science *Environmental Change programme is currently under development but will be available for 2014 entry.

Postgraduate Research Programmes: Students can also undertake research study with our internationally-renowned team of archaeologists, leading to a Masters of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

Why Queen’s? Archaeology at Queen’s has been ranked 1st in the UK for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey. In 2013 we ranked in the Top 10 Archaeology departments in the UK (Guardian, 2014). Students have access to a diverse range of excellent teaching and laboratory facilities (e.g. artefact collections, bone, pollen and tephra) that underpin postgraduate training. Postgraduate students also have access to our AMS Laboratory, one of Europe’s leading dating and chronology facilities, and to our on-site Centre for Archaeological Fieldwork. This blend of fieldwork and practical research skills give graduates a wide range of skills to equip them for employment and further training.
