ROBERT KEE, the author and broadcaster, will be publishing a biography of Pamell with Hamish Hamilton next month. Entitled The Laurel and che I vy, it will also tell the story of Irish nationalism .

HUGH TREVOR-ROPER, who became Master of Peterhouse, Cambridge, after holding Regius professorship of Modern History at Oxford, has written too many , too well-known books to list. He now lives in rural retirement in Berkshire, having been elevated to the peerage in the barony of Dacre ofGlanton.

RICHARD ACTON, once employed as a legal adviser to the Zimbabwe Government, now lives in Iowa ·from which he flies to London to attend House of Lords debates on the Maastricht Treaty.

ANDREW KNIGHT was Editor of the Economise 1974-86 before becoming Editor in Chief and Chief Executive at the Telegraph 1987-1989. He is now Executive Chairman of News International, Chairman of Times Newspapers Holdings and a Director of News Corporation Limited .
