The Klemperer Legacy Mahler: Symphonies To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Otto Klemperer‘s death, EMI Classics pays tribute to the incomparable conductor with the release of an extensive edition of 11 luxurious yet affordable boxsets. The final May 2013 batch includes Klemperer’s interpretations of Mahler’s work, famous for their ‘big outlines’.
Monteverdi: L’Incoronazione di Poppoa This production, recorded in 2012 at the exquisite opera house in Lille, is by the French director Jean-François Sivadier; he was also responsible for La traviata in 2011 at Aix-en-Provence, a staging which again starred Natalie Dessay and can be seen on a Virgin Classics DVD.
The Klemperer Legacy 20th Century Edition The 20th century box treats us to Klemperer’s sprightly, quirkily personal performances of neo-classical masterpieces by Hindemith and Stravinsky, as well as giving a glimpse into the mind of Klemperer the creative musician, decisively influenced by his early encounters with Mahler.
