I SING BEIJING is the first-ever program to of fer a combination of essential training in Western-style opera and a unique opportunity for Western singers to be exposed to the vibrantly developing opera scene in China. Designed for young professionals and graduate level singers, I SING BEIJING’s innovative concept of in t roducing Mandarin as a l y r i c language in the contex t of Western-style opera has captured the at tention of major international media. For the last two summers, the I SING BEIJING ar tists made musical histor y by singing modern Chinese operatic reper toire in Mandarin on the stage of the National Centre for the Per forming Ar ts in Beijing. I n 2013, this his tor i cal program will continue i t s pioneering mission to provide a meeting point for East and West through song under the ar t istic directorship of Hao Jiang T ian, with a distinguished international facult y of experts including coaches from the Metropolitan Opera. The full-scholarship program will of fer classes in interpretation of mainstream Western repertoire, Mandarin diction, stagecraf t with a focus on per formance st yle of Chinese modern operas, as well as classes in Chinese language, culture and ar ts administration over the course of one month, culminating in a concert at the National Centre for the Performing Ar ts.
