I’ve been enjoying a journey
to a land that time forgot
PAUL McGUINNESS, EDITOR
My big brother was obsessed with dinosaurs when we were small, and he taught me all about them: Triceratops’ horny head; ‘steggers’, with those plates and spiked tail; and of course, old short-arms himself, T. rex .
So when my son began his dinosaur obsession I felt pretty sure this was my time to shine as a cool dad who knew his dinos. But it soon became apparent that I was as behind the times on this front as on most others. As we read books and watched TV shows, I found that, during the intervening decades, our understanding of life on prehistoric Earth had come a long way. So, in the interests of getting to grips with the latest science, we’ve lined up a bumper dino-themed Q&A (p40). After all, isn’t it true that we need to learn about the past in order to understand the present, and build a bright future?
