❝ I THINK THIS IS A LANDMARK CAR. THE FIRST GENUINE EV DRIVER’S CAR❞

THE CAR WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR HAS FINALLY ARRIVED, SAYS MATT PRIOR 26

FERRARI PUROSANGUE vs ASTON DBX 707 34

COMMENT

THE CAR INDUSTRY HAS DONE IT AGAIN – TWICE

T H E R E ’ S A LWAY S plentiful anticipation in the Autocar office when one of the team is at the launch of a significant new car, but I was particularly keen to hear what Matt Prior thought of the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. His dispatches from Korea (p26) don’t disappoint: he calls it “the first genuine EV driver’s car”. As you’ll read in his first drive , the Ioniq 5 N isn’t just good for an electric performance car: it’s a genuinely great performance car full stop. Meanwhile, R ichard Lane has pitched the Ferrari Purosangue against the Aston Martin DBX in Scotland this week (p34). In his beautifully written piece, Lane declares that the Purosangue isn’t just good for a Ferrari SUV: it’s a properly great Ferrari full stop. What do both cars have in common? Each is the work of a passionate engineering team set on achieving a singular vision: a true driver’s car in the case of Hyundai’s N division, a ‘true Ferrari’ in the case of Maranello’s finest. Both could largely work free from compromise to meet their goals. As a result, the two machines exemplif y the wonders of car industry progress – and serve as a reminder that, whatever form tomorrow’s cars take, the future is bright.
