GARDEN RAILWAYS COME IN ALL SHAPES AND SIZES

We did it again – another successful ‘Layout in a Day’, built for, what was, by all accounts, a very successful National Garden Railway show.

Mick Blowfield, and his team of volunteers from the 16mm Association, made sure that the final show at Peterborough would be fondly remembered for many years. Once the doors opened, we didn’t stop talking all day, which can only be a good thing.

Our three metre square layout wasn’t the smallest at the show by a long way, nor can it compete with the sheer grandeur of the behemoth that is the 16mm modular layout, but none of this matters. Lack of space isn’t a bar to enjoying large scale railway modelling, neither is money, judging from the very

nice budget models on offer that sit proudly alongside those high-end steam locomotives we would love to own.

As the plants start to put on their best showing, and the tracks are cleared and awoken from their winter slumbers, it’s the perfect time to think about sharing your efforts with our readers. If you can take a dozen or so photos and write a few words, we’d love to showcase your line in the future issue of Garden Rail. Drop me a line with a photo or two, and I’ll see what I can do to make this happen.

In the meantime, there will be more shows this year, some lines to visit, and, of course, the move to Stoneleigh Park next year for the NGRS. There’s always something to look forward to!

Mark Thatcher (left) and Dave Skertchly (right) joined the Editor on our stand at the show. Both were kept very busy, talking about modelling, offering advice and answering questions.
