Le Mans is the latest in a run of great motorsport events
Motorsport’s classic events are coming thick and fast at the moment. We’ve only just had the 2022 editions of the Monaco Grand Prix and Indianapolis 500, and now it’s time for the greatest sportscar race in the world, the Le Mans 24 Hours.
As has become tradition, we have put our Le Mans preview, covering all the cars and drivers in all four classes, into a free supplement. Gary Watkins has spoken to many of the key players while also picking out some pertinent moments from the past. He’ll also be on hand to report on the 90th running of the race for next week’s issue.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix also takes place this weekend. Unlike Monaco, Red Bull will go in as favourite, meaning Ferrari needs to pull out something special for Charles Leclerc if Max Verstappen is not going to run away with the Formula 1 World Championship.
Haas has already performed one of the biggest turnarounds in recent history following its disastrous 2021. Alex Kalinauckas speaks to the main figures to find out what happens next (page 16), while also taking a look at Mick Schumacher. With an established team-mate and a good car, now is the time for the young German to start scoring points and prove he deserves a long-term future in F1 (p22).
On a more fun note, we combine Le Mans with Minis as 2015 victor (and current Corvette driver) Nick Tandy gets behind the wheel of four very special cars in our seven-page National track test (p54).
